BPW fund-raiser shows off culinary greatness with event

The Marathon chapter of the Business and Professional Women Club once again brought out some of the Middle Keys finest restaurants to show off their culinary skills in the tasting event that raises money for the BPW Scholarship Fund. An estimated $25,000 was raised for local high school and adult scholarships. Ticket holders were invited to graze at the various booths, sampling a little of everything. The 12 restaurants competed in different categories of culinary greatness.

2015 Taste of the Island Winners:

Leigh Ann’s Coffeehouse – best entrée – chicken fusion

Herbie’s – best seafood entrée – Caribbean jerk shrimp,

Lighthouse Grill – best appetizer – shrimp shots

Lazy Days – best chowder – conch chowder

Food for Thought – best salad – vegan “chicken” salad

7-Mile Pizzeria – best sandwich – Stromboli

Dolphin Bistro – best dessert – red velvet cheesecake with Oreo crust

Batter-up Cupcakery – best decorated booth – Chicken and Waffle Cupcakes

 

Marathon High School Chef Carl and the Dolphin Bistro culinary students hand out delicious red velvet cakes with Oreo crusts, bite-size Swiss burgers and white conch chowder. The cake won best dessert.
