Applications are now being accepted for the crowns and titles of 2010 King and Queen of Hearts, the annual benefit hosted by the Sister Season Fund (SSF), which assists locals working in the hospitality industry from loss of housing-related income due to illness, injury, or other situations beyond their own control.
“Royalty will be crowned on Valentine’s Day,” says SSF President Ginger King.
The royal headquarters have for a decade been Bobby’s Monkey Bar.
The thrones are open to any two individuals who choose to apply and raise money to benefit SSF and the Xena Fund, says King. The titles are not gender or, appropriately enough, species specific. The Xena Fund benefits four-footed family members. Applications would be welcome from straight couples, lesbian or gay couples, a duo of friends, an individual and his or her pet of whatever gender – possibly even two inanimate objects that are able to raise funds for the cause!
Candidates are expected to hold widely advertised fundraisers up to and including the final night of campaigning at Bobby’s Monkey Bar on Valentine’s Day. The candidate kick-off party will be held at the Monkey Bar on Friday, Jan. 15.
“Like Fantasy Fest royalty, whoever raises the most money wins,” King said. “It’s all in good fun and reflective of both the party hearty and the supportive, take-care-of-our-own atmosphere of Key West.”
Applications are available on the SSF website www.sisterseason.com or call King at 305-849-0991.
