Body Owners Physical Therapy and Wellness Center on Stock Island has a staff of trained professionals, committed to their craft.
“I decided I wanted to be a physical therapist when I helped my brother through a leg lengthening procedure. I knew I wanted to continue to help nurture and recuperate people,” said Jennifer Hauskey, a physical therapist at Body Owners.
Since her brother’s surgery he has been doing extremely well, she said, even making it on to the college basketball team.
The team at Body Owners rehabilitates clients with the help of the “latest and greatest” technologies in the field to ensure clients get the best treatments and results. That includes the use of the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill.
“We have a tennis expert that comes in every week to use the machine,” said PTA Michael Roberts.
The treadmill has a special attachment that uses air pressure to partially suspend the patient. The “unweighting” technology can reduce a patient’s body weight by as much as 80 percent until it feels like “walking on the moon.”
The machine allows patients to rehabilitate lower extremity injuries with less pain and less impact, improve mobility, strength and safety for those with neurological conditions. It is a safe way to lose weight and exercise more intensively, train without pain and reduce the stress to joints and muscles and recover effectively and with less pain after training or competition. A camera is positioned at the user’s feet to check for proper form.
The machine has been embraced by athletes of every ability.
“Quarterback Tom Brady uses a machine like this one to condition,” said owner Heather Smith.
The clinic also offers Deep Tissue Laser Therapy with the top equipment in the field produced by LiteCure. Laser therapy is used for therapy and pain management. It works by generating a photochemical response in damaged tissue by a process called photobiomodulation. The process stimulates healing on a cellular level by enabling cells to more rapidly produce energy. Deep tissue laser therapy requires no surgery, no drugs and is fast acting.
“After just a couple months my back pain was reduced to the point where I can finally live a normal life again,” said Jennifer who gets deep tissue laser treatments regularly.
