Public Speaking Boot Camp
This is a hands-on Seminar hosted by the Marathon Jaycees. Attend if you want to: Learn how to manage anxiety associated when giving speeches, acquire skills that professional speakers utilize, uncover your leadership potential though public speaking, and become more successful in your career and community.

ONLY 12 seats available. $20 per day for non-Jaycees. FREE for Jaycees members. Each day can be taken independently.

Forgotten Felines to meet in public
6/29/09 at 6pm Forgotten Felines invites the public to join us for our meeting to be held at Martin Luther Chapel 122nd Street Gulf (behind NAPA).  We encourage anyone with cat concerns to attend.  There will be free raffle, food, beverage and a fun time.  For more information call Sally at (305) 896-0932.

 

A liberal gathering
The Monroe County DEC will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, June 22 at the Disabled American Veterans Hall in Marathon.

The gathering will start with a social at 6 PM to which all Democrats are invited.  At 6:15, guest speaker, State Attorney Dennis Ward, will make brief remarks and answer questions.

Bring out your coins!
The Educational Coalition for Monroe County will hold a Coin Toss/Music @ the Marketplace fundraiser this Saturday, June 20th 8AM-1PM (music from 10-1). Volunteers will be collecting donations at Sombrero Intersection, guitar students will be performing at Publix, students will be bagging groceries also at Publix, and the CAMP Jazz Band will be performing at the Incredible Fruit Stand.  All proceeds to support CAMP & Careers, all donations are greatly appreciated!  For more information call 305-743-6215.

 

Love Your Island
As part of First State Bank of the Florida Keys’ ongoing commitment to GO GREEN, we will be sponsoring another Love Your Island cleanup on Saturday, June 27 from 8-10 and we need your help!

To continue our support of the Love Your Island monthly Key West City Clean-Ups, the Bank has chosen the Old Town office at 444 Whitehead Street, as the official clean-up site for June!

Come out and support our Bank and our local Green Efforts by volunteering for this community event! And encourage others (friends & family) to volunteer as well.

Navy Band Jazz Ensemble to play Marathon

Navy Band Southeast’s Jazz Ensemble, Orion, is an eighteen-piece group that performs a wide variety of music from traditional Big Band classics to contemporary Jazz, sizzling Latin to Motown.  With high caliber vocals and dynamic soloists, this versatile group has entertained tens-of-thousands of audiences at numerous festivals, schools, and military events throughout the Southeast region.  Wherever they perform, they are met with excitement and enthusiasm!  This band will perform on Sunday evening, June 28, at 6PM at Community Park Amphitheater. The performance is FREE. Bring your friends, picnics, and lawn chairs and enjoy this rare opportunity to hear fabulous military music in Marathon.

 

Final Solar Installation Class in July
The final Florida Keys Community College solar installation class of 2009 will be held at the Marathon campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., July 7-31 with an all-day lab session in Key West on August 1. To register for the class, call FKCC at 809-3185. Cost is $490. The textbook “Photovoltaic Systems” costs extra and can be obtained from http://www.JimDunlopSolar.com.

Healthy Start Safety Check
The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition will host another free safety seat check event Saturday, June 27th, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Key West Publix Parking area. Child passenger safety technicians will be on site to check your child’s car seat or booster. For more info, please call (305) 293-8424.

 

Leadership Monroe County Schedules Recruitment Socials for Class Xviii
Leadership Monroe County has begun its recruitment process for Class XVIII of the county-wide leadership program.  On Friday, June 26, the first of three socials will be held at the Gardens Hotel (526 Angela Street) in Key West from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Individuals interested in seeking a spot in the Class XVIII beginning in October should attend the social to find out more about Leadership Monroe.  Area alumni will be on hand to acquaint prospective class members with the program.  There will be a cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres.
