Christmas Bazaar at Martin Luther Chapel

Martin Luther Chapel is having a Christmas bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 27 from 8 am to 1 pm at 325 122nd Street (behind Napa Auto Parts), in Marathon. All handmade gifts and fresh baked goods will be available for purchase in the fellowship hall in the rear of the church.

Crane Point Kids Expo
Crane Point Museum and Nature Center proudly presents a Kids Exposition – Birds, Bees, Flowers, Trees, and Trail Mix on Saturday, Nov. 27 at Crane Point, 5550 Overseas Highway, Marathon.

The Expo runs 11 am – 2 pm. The event includes bird watching along the trails using free binoculars. Learn how to mix up a batch of trail mix and take some along with you to snack on while walking the trails. Discussions and exhibits regarding wild birds will be provided by the Wild Bird Center; Bees in the Keys will discuss our live beehives and provide honey samples; John Henderson will discuss the flowers, trees, and wildlife that reside at Crane Point; and Mel Walsh of Reef Displays will discuss Crane Point’s sea life. Join with the staff from Home Depot who is sponsoring a free kids workshop to build a birdhouse.

The exposition is a free, family-oriented event sponsored by Crane Point Museum and Nature Center. A free lunch will be provided to all attendees who call Crane Point by Friday, Nov. 19 to register for the event. All children who participate in the exposition will receive a free gift. Please contact Audrey or John at 743-3900 by Nov. 19 to register and to secure your lunch reservations. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Garden Club Fall Festival
The Garden Club will be hosting its Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 27. Featured items will include a variety of tropical plants from the garden club’s own nursery, delicious homemade baked goods, educational booths, raffle items, local artisans, and crafts; food, music and activities for children. Indoor & outdoor vendor space is available at reasonable rates. Contact Linnea Cunningham at (305) 743-2008.

Holiday Arts and Crafts

Mark your calendars for children’s arts and crafts activities, sponsored by Marathon Parks and Recreation Department. On Saturday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Dec. 4. On November 28, there will be a variety of crafts to make as a part of the Zonta Club’s Holiday Festival of Trees at the Marathon Airport. Crafts will be available between 10 am – 2 pm.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the third “Holiday Arts and Crafts” session for Holiday/Christmas crafts will be at Community Park Main Pavilion between 9AM-11AM. This is a $5 cost to cover materials.

Tuesday, November 30
Flu Shots at Marathon Senior Center

The Marathon Senior Center at 535 33rd Street is offering flu and pneumonia shots from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Bingo will begin promptly at 1:30 and every Tuesday thereafter.

Free phones will be available at the Senior Center on Monday, Dec. 13. Finally, the last Driver’s Safety Class of 2010 will be held Fri. Dec. 10 and Sat. Dec. 11 from 1-4 pm. Registration is available on Dec. 10 until 12:30 pm.

Wednesday, December 1
Marathon AARP Computer Club

The Marathon AARP Computer Club will be holding its first session on Wednesday, December 1st from 9am to 11am at the Senior Center on 33rd St, Gulf, across the street from Switlick School. Please bring your laptops if you have one. If you don’t have a laptop please attend anyway as we have two desktop computers for use.

There is no charge to come to these meetings. The discussions are to help seniors who may only have minimal computer knowledge help each other with basic personal computer tasks and problems. The Clubs purpose is to create senior computer enthusiasts and to increase their skill level and confidence.

MHS Class of 2010 Fundraiser

Marathon High School’s Jr. Class is hosting a yard and bake sale along with a carwash. All proceeds will go towards their Jr. Class Prom. Dec 5th in the Iberia Bank Parking lot from 7am – 2pm.
