It’s official. Craig Cates will be on the 2016 ballot for a potential fifth term as Mayor of Key West. After attending the City’s Inaugural Ceremony for the swearing-in of three new City Commission members, Mayor Cates made his way to the Supervisor of Elections Office in Key West to ink his decision.

“I’m excited about the new Commission and I’m looking forward to working with them to keep Key West moving forward,” said Cates. “They are all motivated and that’s why I’m running again. I’m excited about finishing some projects like the Truman Waterfront and addressing the affordable housing issue with them.”

Other than “Sonny” McCoy, who served from 1971 to 1981, no other Key West Mayor has worked an unprecedented 5th term, which Cates will be seeking in 2016.
