Ditch the guilt, dig into the burger – BurgerFi on Duval Street offers a ‘responsible’ option

After hearing that BurgerFi is committed to focusing on providing all-natural, vegetarian-fed beef, and products that are treated with zero hormones and antibiotics – I knew I had to add it to my list to try.  I love a big, juicy, burger as much as the next guy, but I do like to try to be conscious of what I’m eating, especially when it comes to a “faster” food option.

Without sacrificing flavor, BurgerFi has managed to do the right thing and come up with some really delicious eats!  The menu is filled with a respectable selection of certified all-natural angus beef burgers, 100-percent grass-fed beef hot dogs (sans nitrates), fresh cut potatoes, hand-cut onion rings, and even house-made custard for their plethora of sundaes and shakes; also no preservatives. BurgerFi also has a hefty list of beer and wine selected to compliment the flavors of their gourmet style burgers and numerous toppings.  BurgerFi’s Key West location is the company’s first to include a fully stocked bar, where staff have even come up with some fun and tropical libations for tourists and visitors alike to enjoy.

My husband Shane and I were lucky enough to enjoy a sampling of the menu and try some of the goodies like the Urban Fries and the B.A.D. Burger.

We started off with a taste of the adult-friendly specialty drink, the Key West Colada – a blend of vanilla custard, a slice of Key Lime Pie (yes, a slice), piña colada mix, and a long pour of pineapple rum.

As for the food, I was interested in the VegeFi Burger, a homemade grilled quinoa burger, topped with white cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and served on a multi-grain bun.  I definitely tasted the difference in this veggie patty from others I have tried. I was able to identify bits of fresh veggies and beans in each bite. Most of the burgers at BurgerFi are served with double patties so, for those that are undecided, they can go with the “half and half” option — one all-natural beef patty, topped with the crisp quinoa option.

Another popular option is the Breakfast All Day Burger, a.k.a. the B.A.D. Burger.  This bad boy is a burger fit for a king — topped with American cheese, hickory bacon, fried egg, hash browns, grilled onions, and drizzled with maple syrup and ketchup.

My husband Shane didn’t put it down long enough for me to even try a bite.

The hot dog menu has lots of options from the all-natural Chicken Apple Dog to the 100-percent Waygu Kobe Beef Dog. We opted to sample the Chicago-style dog topped with neon relish, diced onions, tomatoes, spicy sport peppers, celery salt, and a pickle spear served on a fresh poppy seed bun.  This excess of ingredients made for the perfect combination of flavors, giving you a bit of crispy, crunchy, sweet, and spicy all in one bite!

BurgerFi customers will find themselves torn with indecision when it comes to ordering fries. The eatery offers all sorts: salt and vinegar, parmesan herb, Cajun spices, cheese or chili.  I recommend the salt and vinegar. Or just go all out with the Urban Fries, parm-herb fries topped with a garlic aioli. The fries are made to order and customers can ask for “Fries Well Done” (crispy) or “Fries Limp” (the opposite).

It’s always nice to be able to indulge in a guilty pleasure, especially when it’s not so guilty. After all, customers can always order the vegetarian option or a bunless burger and not feel so guilty about it.
