Farmers market set for Wednesday on Key Colony Beach

Farmers market set for Wednesday on Key Colony Beach - A pile of fresh produce - Farmers' market

It’s baack!

After an aborted attempt at a weekly farmers market in Marathon, the organizer has recently secured permission from the City of Key Colony Beach to have it there. The Green Market Events and its vendors will be at the park near city hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until further notice.

“We’re very happy they want to have the farmers market in Key Colony Beach. Our residents are enthusiastic,” said Key Colony Beach Mayor Jerry Ellis.

Green Market Events’ organizer Jason Hershin said the Key Colony Beach option proved an immediate solution.

“Mayor Ellis and Key Colony Beach Building Official Ed Borysiewicz were very helpful,” Hershin said. “Plus it’s a great location. There’s shade, grass and electrical service.”

Hershin said he has filed a conditional use permit in order to be able to have an event in Marathon city limits. Marathon Planning Director George Garrett said he has not.

Goods will range from local and/or organic produce to bread, meat, cheese, juice, nuts, teas, and honey.

Green Market Events coordinates farmers markets all over Florida, including one in Islamorada and one in Key West.
