Over the next six weeks, contractors for the Florida Department
of Transportation will close portions of the northbound outside lane
on the Overseas Highway to repair a steep drop-off at the edge of
the shoulder and install boulders to prevent future erosion. Work
will be performed between MM 5.4 and the Boca Chica Channel Bridge
at MM 6.

The work is part of the overall Hurricane Wilma Erosion
Restoration Project, currently underway between MM 5.4 to MM 91 and
consists of repairing areas along the O/S Highway washed out or
destabilized by the hurricane. Guardrails will also be installed
along portions of the shoulder to enhance safety.

Repairs will be done in quarter-mile sections and motorists will
be advised in advance of lane closures and other traffic impacts via
media releases and electronic message boards posted on the roadway.
The $5.8 million restoration project began in late summer 2008, and
is expected to finish in summer 2009.
