Halloween Carnival at Stanley Switlik
The entire community, including school age children (!), are invited to attend Stanley Switlik Elementary’s Halloween Carnival. It’s set for Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m.
The children come dressed in costume to play games at about two dozen booths for prizes; participate in the “cake walk;” and eat and drink. Proceeds benefit the school’s PTO which supports fun educational opportunities for local children.
Shopping plaza hosts trick or treaters
Once again, the businesses at Gulfside Village shopping plaza are passing out candy on Thursday, Oct. 31 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Little trick or treaters make their way around the “U” collecting goodies generously provided by local retailers and other groups.
Neighborhood sees influx of trick or treaters
As usual, the neighborhood behind the Marathon Airport will see a huge influx of trick or treaters on Thursday, Oct. 31. Generally, the action starts early for young children and as the night progresses, older children take over the street. Pedestrian congestion is extreme. It’s recommended that trick or treating families park on Aviation Boulevard or adjacent streets and hike in. Also, those with a shaving cream allergy should work on developing mad reflex skills or leave early.
Haunted House howls on Halloween
Crane Point Museum & Nature Center in Marathon will host a Haunted House on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will visit the Crane Point “Zombie Hospital,” the hospital with a walking dead staff …
Enter Crane Point through the gate near the right-of-way. Follow the spooky path directly into the Cracker House and tour the eerie, unsettling, hair-raising, creepy, frightening hospital totally staffed by zombies. Be prepared to be scared.
Children should be accompanied by a parent. Admission is free.

Pet costume contest set for Friday, Nov. 1
Cabana Breezes on Key Colony Beach is hosting a pet costume contest on Friday, Nov. 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. The event benefits the Marathon Wild Bird Center and Save A Turtle. The contest begins at 6 p.m. and organizers promise prizes and treats plus a 50/50 raffle and silent auction.
Admission is $5.
