Healing waters

The group includes more than 50 veterans and volunteers who stayed on the island.

Earlier this month, the Pigeon Key Foundation and Marine Science Center hosted more 50 veterans and volunteers as part of Project Healing Waters. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled military personnel and strives to open new doors through fly fishing, fly tying, and outings for past and present members of the armed forces who have made great sacrifices in the service of the nation. Each morning these lucky veterans rose with the sun to go fishing in the waters around Marathon. Thanks to the generosity of numerous Marathon charter captains who volunteered their time and resources, the members of Project Healing Waters Tennessee Valley Region were able to experience some of the best fishing the Florida Keys has to offer. These veterans developed new friendships, experienced a few of their own “fish tales,” and caught plenty of fish.
