On Saturday, June 21, community supporters are holding a showcase for recent MHS grad Xavier McKnight. The $20 admission ticket will go towards tuition at the prestigious American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, his dream school.

He and his friends will perform an evening of songs from favorite Broadway musicals including “Rent,” “Pippin,” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”

A Florida Keys native, McKnight has performed throughout the island chain at various venues including the Marathon Community Theatre, Marathon High School, Coral Shores High School and several churches. His voice, dancing and acting talent earned him featured and rave reviews in a number of productions and led to his acceptance to AMDA. The selection process is competitive. Prospective students must audition for a panel that then recommends which applicants are accepted. “Performing professionally is my life goal. Studying at the Academy will elevate me to the next level,” says McKnight.

Although he has earned several scholarships, additional funds are necessary for him to attend the school in New York City. Members of the Marathon community united for their home grown talent, generously supporting his dream through contributions to the “I Knew Him When” scholarship administered through MCT. Proceeds from the show on Saturday, June 21 will also go towards his tuition. “I am so grateful to the people of Marathon for believing in me. I also want to thank them with my performance,” McKnight adds.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Marathon Community Theatre. For tickets, call 305-743-0994 or buy tickets online at marathontheater.org.
