Islamorada Woman Charged with Child Cruelty

Islamorada – An Islamorada woman has been arrested, charged with child cruelty.

Sheriff’s Detective Deb Ryan with the Crimes Against Women and Children’s Unit responded to a day care center in Islamorada after being notified by the Department of Children and Families of a report of possible child abuse.

When she arrived, the detective spoke with teachers who had noticed the four year old child’s injuries after she was dropped off at the facility. Upon examination, Detective Ryan observed the child had a black eye, a bump on her head and injuries consistent with the child being beaten with something like a belt. She had numerous lacerations and marks on her thighs and buttocks. The girl told the detective she sometimes throws up while eating. She said 22 year old Ariana Campuzano makes her eat her vomit, and punishes her by spanking her and hitting her with a belt.

Detective Ryan went to Campuzano’s home and placed her under arrest. Campuzano did not wish to make any statements. She was booked into jail on child cruelty charges.
