Kairathon Kicks in over $6,000

The airwaves over Marathon crackled with excitement this past Tuesday as the community took over the 94.3 airwaves during the first annual Kairathon. A fire to a food bank on the mainland brought attention to the dwindling food reserves of the Keys Area Interdenominational Resources (Kair); a non-profit organization whose mission is to help the disadvantaged get back on their feet, or provide basic services to those with chronic issues. The idea was hatched on Wednesday by Stan Haines and Anne O’Bannon and by Tuesday evening – a truckload of groceries and more than $6,000 was unloaded at the Community United Methodist Church.
