Petrick bids farewell after 20 years

This past week, Key Colony Police Chief Robert Petrick retired from the force after 20 years of service.
He came on as a patrolman in 1991 and was promoted to chief 12 years ago.
“It’s about time to get back out there and do some fishing and diving,” Petrick said four minutes after his official retirement. Other future plans include knocking some items off a “honey-do” list penned by his wife, Nicole.
This past Wednesday, friends, co-workers and family gathered at the Key Colony Inn to wish their friend luck in the next phase of his life.
“For more than two decades, this community was blessed to have a public servant as dedicated as Chief Petrick,” said KCB Mayor Ron Sutton. “He has made Key Colony Beach a safer place to call home and an ideal location for families on vacation. His absence will be missed, but our community is fortunate to have another equally talented officer taking his place.”
His replacement is officer Kris DiGiovanni.
“He has a heart of gold, and his heart is in the job,” said Petrick, who said the responsibility that comes with the position is one of the facets he will miss most.
“There are a lot of things I am going to miss,” he said. “The citizens, the folks I worked for and those I worked with. This is a great place with great people.”
He and his wife, Nicole, will continue to make their home on Grassy Key in Marathon.
