Key Colony Inn is known for its espresso martinis that feature a refreshing shot of espresso.

“It is by far the most popular drink,” said bartender Ashley Premo, who has been slinging drinks at Key Colony Inn’s bar for the past eight months. He is on his way out for the summer to work at a country club in Michigan for a few months before coming back in October, but not before showing newbie Kathleen Cassin the ropes. She has been tending in the Keys for the past 10 years, but came over to KCI last week.

Demonstrating with considerable flair, Ashley brewed fresh espresso, added in a little Tia Maria and Kahlua and filled the shaker with vodka. The drink doesn’t need a garnish, unless you count the overflow served in a little glass. “The real treat is the extra sidecar we serve at the bar,” Ashley said. “The little extra is a nice touch.”

Both agree that the best part of working at Key Colony Inn is the custumers. “It’s the number one reason I will be back in October,” Ashley said. “When I moved down here, I never thought I would have it so good.
