With each table intimately lit by tiny lamps and a local gentleman tickling the ivories for your listening pleasure, “The Inn” as most locals simply call it, invites diners inside to enjoy some of the finest Italian and French fare with the fitting focus on seafood.
A friendly host always greets you at the door and offers dining in the lounge or dining room. The glass-enclosed private dining room, a perfect setting for your wedding, party, benefit, convention or corporate engagement, features cathedral ceilings and a view of the island’s golf course.
If you opt for grabbing a pre-dinner drink at the bar, plan to mingle with the friendliest, flip-flopped locals around. The Inn offers a full bar with an exquisite wine list and an array of specialty cocktails.
On a recent Tuesday evening, The Weekly strolled over The Inn for satisfy a craving for dishes reminiscent of the motherland. Though it was hard to resist sampling the Escargot or Baked Oysters Remick, we opted to peruse the entrée options to satiate our appetite.
Only insanity would implore a Southerner and an Italian to commit to a low-carbohydrate diet just before a proper Italian feast. One threw the rules out the window and savored every bit of the sin by ordering an Italian Combination Dinner that included Baked Manicotti, Ravioli, a Veal Cutlet and a hefty sausage and meatball over spaghetti with tomato sauce. This extensive and tasty meal will only set you back $15.95 and comes with a house salad and warm, toasty bread. Savor it with a glass of Malbec, and you’re certain to sleep well for the night. The other diner decided to stick to his dietary rules and chose rich and delicious Veal Marsala that was chocked full of mushrooms and accompanied by a side of fresh sautéed squash and cool glass of Pinot Grigio.
Though it was hard to resist sampling the Cannoli or Tiramisu following the feast, we opted to round out our meal with one of the Inn’s famed Espresso Martinis.
Key Colony Inn also offers one of the tastiest brunches in the middle Keys and features fare like yellowtail snapper in lemon dill sauce, eggs Benedict and custom-made omelets.
Owned by longtime middle Keys residents Sergei and Lena Proudnik and staffed with some of the friendliest local staff around, a meal at the Inn is as close to your family dining room as you can get without the exhausting plane ride home.
