Master distiller Jeff Louchheim took has passion for spirits to the next level by giving up his career as a private investigator in New York to start his own spirits company in Key West. He is a bit of mad scientist — adding, sipping, stirring, sipping and always striving for perfection by mixing the perfect blend of ingredients.

When entering the distillery expect to be greeted by the beautiful Amber Kelly who is extremely knowledgeable on craft spirits.

“I like the 153 proof rum because it is smooth and has a good flavor,” Kelly said while pouring a small sample.

The whiskey is her other favorite craft spirit but the next batch will not be ready until May. The whiskey is collaboration between both Jeff and Bone Island Brewery’s Jim Brady who provides the barley.

Right now the Spyglass Vodka and three varieties of rum are available for purchase but there is constantly new bottles being added to the shelves. Flavored vodka and gin are in the works to come out sometime in spring or summer. They are open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. at 524 Southard St., Key West.
