One of the things I truly believe in is the Mayor and all City government must treat people respectfully, and respect different points of view. We have many smart people in this community and we must get them working together. Let us stop talking about what divides us and start working on what will bring us together as a community. As your Mayor, I pledge I will always keep in mind the protection of our citizens’ life style and quality of life.
“People ask me all day and night, ‘Why do you want to be mayor, Mike Mongo?’ The answer is because I’m in love with Key West. I mean deeply in love with Key West. I just have a real love-on for Key West. That’s why I want to be mayor, because of the love I have for Key West. And that’s who I am asking to vote for me, people who love Key West, and who are ready for a change, and who know we can do better.”
Mayoral Candidate (I)
From Start to Finish, as Mayor, I have had vision and commitment “Key West is an incredible place to visit, but an even better place to call home.” As a public servant, I have participated with the PAL, TDC, the Boys & Girls Club, Wesley House, Florida After School Network, and the Early Learning Coalition.
My focus stretches from a local to a regional scope to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. I look forward to the future, remain steadfast in commitment to the great residents of Key West, and will continue to build on the foundation that dedication and energy has established.
It is rumored I conceded I had little chance of winning the mayor’s race and I endorsed Craig Cates. What happened was, I said at some candidate forums, “If you don’t vote for me, vote for Craig Cates, and not for the other two candidates. Craig’s a good man, will make a good mayor, but he and I come from very different places.” You can bet the conch farm Craig doesn’t think I conceded. If you don’t believe me, ask him!
