‘Love is in the air’ See Key West from a helicopter seat this Valentine’s Day - A group of people in a car - Air Adventures Helicopters

Viewing Key West from a helicopter seat brings a new perspective of the island, even for residents who grew up here.

Boats pass next to sea turtles, stunning architecture is visible from above, and the coast of the island looks better than a Sandals Resort commercial. Every view can be appreciated through the chopper’s wrap-around windshield and, if you live in town, the pilot may very well fly you over your own home.

“What better place to go on a helicopter ride than Key West?” asked Peter Closi, owner of Air Adventures Helicopter Tours.

Closi brought helicopter rides to Key West after the previous helicopter tour company left about three years ago.

His company and friendly helicopter pilots offer four different trips in a helicopter. The inexpensive and shortest is a five-minute ride, six-mile tour that flies over majestic marine life and cruises over notable Key West landmarks. The 10-minute eco-tour for $99 is designed for marine life enthusiasts and it’s common to see dolphins, stingrays, sea turtles, and sharks in the turquoise water. The most romantic and extravagant of the tours is the Sunset Celebration, were patrons enjoy a complimentary champagne toast as the sun disappears behind the horizon, followed by a relaxing twilight ride over the water as the helicopter returns to land.

Trips come with a photo and video package so the memories can last a lifetime.

Closi said he’s had a few special requests over the years.

“There have been proposals. It is a great place to get engaged,” Closi said, hinting a helicopter ride would be ideal on Valentine’s Day.

The company also offers helicopter pilot training for just over $700 an hour as well.

“Flying in a helicopter is something everyone should experience once.” Closi said.
