TJ Magrane has recently been awarded the “Eagle Scout Merit Badge” – the highest rank in Boy Scouts. Only a small percentage of young men who join the Scouts ever achieve this level. To earn it, a Scout must have received at least 21 merit badges encompassing such subjects as Citizenship, Personal fitness, First Aid and Life Saving. Presently, TJ has 35 merit badges.
The ultimate challenge is to do a community project where the Scout coordinates all aspects of the project from signing up donors and leading fellow Scouts to final completion of the project. TJ’s project was extremely complicated and time consuming.
He spent over a year coordinating with “Village” committee members and personnel, a General Contractor, and suppliers. He designed and supervised the building of eight steel reinforced concrete benches at the “Hurricane Memorial”. These benches were then covered in native coral rock to blend in with the memorial. TJ would like to thank Bob Guenther who led him through the actual bench building and Roy Bogue who has been his Scout Master for the last five years.
