Forty-four racers turned out on Saturday, Aug. 13 for MaraTri’s mini sprint triathlon at Sombrero Beach. Participants swam a quarter mile, biked six miles and ran two miles for this second event staged by the newly formed race club.

“It was a great event,” said Mark Felts, a local chiropractor and club member. “We had people from the Upper, Middle and Lower Keys participate and I think it was very successful. I would like to thank our volunteers for making that happen.”

Volunteers monitored the swim from kayaks, boats and jet skis. Other helpers directed cyclists on the course or handed out water during the foot race.

MaraTri plans to hold more races in the future. For more information about dates or to learn about joining the club for group workouts, call (305) 731-5588; visit the club’s website at; or email
