Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament

Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament

It’s that time of year again! It seems as though spring has sprung into summer a bit early this year and with it, so have the Dolphin.

With Mother’s Day weekend fast approaching, treat mom to a mutually beneficial event with the Catch 53 Bar and Grille 5th Annual Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament benefiting Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys.

Bruce Boring (left) pictured with his wife, Pam, boated the winning fish last year in the Mother’s Day Dolphin Tournament with this 37.6-pound fish.

This is the fifth year for the successful tournament in which anglers vie for $15,000 in cash and prizes. The five heaviest dolphin caught finish in the money and as an “Angler’s” tournament, two anglers on the same vessel can place. As always, all proceeds go towards providing homes for eligible families in the Middle Keys through Habitat for Humanity.

The mandatory Captain’s Meeting kicks off Friday, May 6, at 6 pm at Catch 53 Bar and Grille, located behind the newly renovated Holiday Inn Express in Marathon. Fishing takes place on Saturday, May 7 with lines in at 7:30 am, lines out at 3:30 pm. Anglers can leave from any port in the Keys as long as they bring their catch to the scales by 5 pm at Big Time Bait and Tackle in Marathon. The Awards Banquet follows the fishing at 7 pm at Castaway Waterfront Restaurant and Sushi Bar.

Entry to the tournament is $175 per angler, and that includes the Captain’s Meeting and Awards Banquet, a long sleeve tournament tee and a goody bag. Additional meal tickets for both events will be available onsite.
