#Music: Rick Fusco follows his heart - A man holding a guitar - Bass guitar

By Karri Daley

Rick Fusco has a heart of gold and a voice to match. His passionate singing and brilliant guitar playing will give you chills.

Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, Rick was introduced to music by his older brother. He developed singing skills on his own and at age 15 learned guitar by observing other musicians.

After high school, Rick joined the United States Air Force. At that time he entered a talent competition and became a finalist for the USAF Tops in Blue. Rick and his band “Final Mix” were signed to Motown Records. Rick was also a member of Atlantic Records and shared the stage with Millie Jackson, The Ohio Players, Miles Jay, and many other well-known artists. He opened for acts such as America, Firehouse, and Lisa Loeb as well.

In December of 2012, 3 young men who beat him nearly to death and left him to die on the side of the highway randomly robbed Rick. A passerby found him and sent for help. After various surgeries and many months of recovery, Rick was thankfully back on his feet again.

In November 2013, Rick’s friends invited him to come to their home in Key West as chance to heal from his experience. They convinced him to quit his job in Wilmington as a Process Analyst for JP Morgan and Chase and embrace his musical talent.

He began full-time self-employment as a musician here on the island and hasn’t looked back since. Things are going great for this optimistic kindhearted man and we are grateful to have him and his golden voice here in paradise. To know more about Rick or to hear his music go to www.rickfusco.com.
