The chance at feasting on an eclectic buffet of fresh fish is closing. Monday, April 16 is the deadline for tickets to Blue Water Surrender’s fifth annual Fish Fry benefit on Friday, April 20 at the Islander Resort. Tickets are $50 per person and can found at the Blue Bamboo, Our Place in Paradise, and Maderia Azul Salon.

Benefits of the Fish Fry support Casa Aqua Azul, a Guatemalan safe house for children.

Blue Water Surrender’s Gail Gordon says she and the staff of Casa Aqua Azul are waiting on one last inspection to open the group’s second child safe house in Guatemala. The new facility will house 24 boys and girls and is designed to care for children ages 3 to 9 ages. In all, both homes house and care for 56 children.

Last year’s Fish Fry fundraiser was used to secure the money needed to continue building Casa Aqua Azul. This year’s funds will help fund the home’s necessary overhead says Gordon.

Volunteers from around the country have helped build both homes, with the majority from the Keys says Gordon. Through the years 24 conchs have gone on mission work to the Guatemalan homes. “People come to visit and help whether it be physically building and doing construction, spending time with children loving them, teaching them, or playing games with them,” said Gordon.

Blue Water Surrender is asking guests to consider committing $35 a month to the cause. All the funds will go to up keeping the home and providing for food, clothing, doctors, legal services, transportation, education, cost of social workers, psychologist, and more.
