Peter Chapman, of Chapman Cardwell Capital Management, a Marathon financial services firm, has been elected as the chairman of the Fishermen’s Community Hospital Board of Trustees. He replaces Michael Cunningham, CEO of Keys AHEC, a countywide community health services organization, who served as chairman for four years.

“As treasurer of the Board of Trustees for the last four years, Peter has ably demonstrated the financial and leadership abilities necessary for his new role as board chair,” said Hal Leftwich, Fishermen’s Community Hospital CEO. “Outgoing Board Chair Michael Cunningham is to be commended for successfully guiding Fishermen’s through the complicated and demanding process of transitioning from a for-profit organization to a non-profit community hospital.”

Chapman, a graduate of Rhode Island’s Providence College, is a 14-year Keys resident and active in several civic organizations. Chapman and his wife of 13 years, Kate, have a five-year-old son and are expecting their second child this March.

“Fishermen’s is critical not only to the health and well-being of local residents and visitors, but as one of the Middle Keys largest employers, our economy as well,” said Chapman.   “It is an honor to lead such a talented hospital management team and a board committed to Fishermen’s continued success.”

The other members of the Fishermen’s Community Hospital Board of Trustees are Vice Chair Barbara Wright, a retired educator and school principal; Treasurer Dan Samess, Marathon Chamber of Commerce CEO; Secretary Jeff Coldren, owner Sunshine Quality Roofing; David Kirwin, attorney; and Richard Malafy, attorney with Campbell and Malafy.

Fishermen’s Community Hospital is a nonprofit organization located in Marathon. It offers a state-of-the-art emergency department, full array of diagnostic and laboratory services, an intensive care unit, impatient and outpatient surgery, physical and occupational therapy, and pharmacy.
