Pier House Resort & Spa goes pink on Thursday, Oct. 9, holding a first-time event with pink champagne, attire, treats to eat and a Silver Key Lingerie fashion show with proceeds benefitting Zonta Club of Key West and The Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys.

“Pier House is excited to raise money locally for The Cancer Foundation of the Keys and Zonta Club. We wanted to do something to show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and with the celebration of our newly refreshed spa, this presents the perfect opportunity to ‘think pink’ and help those in need,” said Adele Gerbracht, executive assistant to the vice president/general manager of Key West Hotels.

Two events will be taking place at Pier House. From 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., the “Refresh with Care” event will welcome guests to explore the spa, gamble on raffle prizes and enjoy 50 percent off select treatments. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., guests are invited to visit the Beach Bar for a Zonta ABC 5K Walk kick-off party on the private beach, while enjoying happy hour prices on beverages and $5 menu items.

The Spa at Pier House has recently been updated with new spa equipment, a luxurious relaxation area, rejuvenating steam showers and a spa-inspired lunch menu. Meant for supreme relaxation, the full-service spa has been redesigned for customers to experience pure bliss and offers everything from massages to pedicures. During the Refresh with Care opening event, they will be offering 50 percent off select treatments and donating a portion of the proceeds to The Cancer Foundation. Ladies can get a pink express manicure for $20 and feel good about the money going towards a good cause. There will also be 50 percent off selected facials, massages and hair and makeup.

The goal of the Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys is to assist qualified patients while undergoing treatment when other sources of financial assistance have been denied or exhausted.

Later in the day, the public is invited to attend The Zonta ABC 5k Walk Kick-Off Party that will begin at 5:30 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested. The Prime Movers will provide the musical entertainment and guests will enjoy finger food and see the fashion show which features models who are breast cancer survivors.

“The Zonta event at Pier House is being held for our mammogram program. We paid for 250 mammograms last year and have provided nearly 3,000 since we started,” said Zonta president Roberta DePiero. “Pier House approached us wanting to do something for breast cancer awareness.”

In hopes of raising money there will be a raffle (prizes include a brand new TV) and silent auction.

The Zonta organization also conducts free heart health exams for ladies, distributes scholarships to KWHS students and adult women, as well as provides skin cancer treatments for low-income women who qualify.

“Come down, dip your toes in the sand and help raise money for a great cause,” DePiero said.
