Pill Robbery Suspect Arrested

Key West Police officers arrested a homeless man shortly after he robbed a local pharmacy of 300 pain pills.

Just after 6 pm Wednesday, Daniel Ryan Springer, 22, handed a note to a pharmacist at Walgreen’s on North Roosevelt Blvd. The note said the suspect had a gun, and demanded oxycodone pills. The pharmacist handed over three bottles containing 300 pills and the suspect fled the store.

Police immediately canvassed the nearby area and found Springer lying flat in the tall weeds behind the store. Springer had the three stolen bottles of pills as well as a syringe in his possession. One of the pill bottles had been opened, and all but three of the stolen pills were recovered.

Springer told the arresting officers that, although he’d claimed to have a gun in the note, there was no gun in reality.

Springer faces three felony counts for robbery, grand theft, and trafficking oxycodone as well as a misdemeanor charge for possession of paraphernalia.
