Roshambo takes the audience through different circumstances that could happen after a fate-deciding game of Rock, Paper and Scissors. The story revolves around a fictional Dijon convenience store, and owner by the same name — a not-so-subtle reference to the Dion’s food marts popular in the Keys for their fabulous fried chicken.
The plot, such as it is, is divided into six scenes, dedicated to explaining the “Many World Theory.” The theory implies that all possible alternate histories and futures are real, each representing an actual world or universe. Everything that could possibly have happened in our past, but did not, has actually occurred in some other alternate reality. The theory makes for a creative storyline with many possible outcomes.
“Roshambo” is written and created by Jon Rhoads with additional work by J.B. McLendon, is directed by Michael Marrero, and stars Pony Charvet, Lliam Dufresne, Mook J, Chad Newman, and Laura Richardson.
The superb acting makes it possible for the audience to follow the zany tale that includes multiple endings. Pony Charvet does a brilliant job of being awkwardly hilarious in two character roles. Mook J as Mr. Dijon is a storeowner with a passion for science fiction. Lliam Dufresne as Jeff makes the best fried gizzards in the Keys. Laura Richardson really hates delivering food, Chad Newman is the burglar and a health inspector and Kelly Jane is the stage manager and Yuniel, a thug who will do whatever it takes to get her way.
The play offers adventure, excitement and extreme laughs that resonate through Key West Theater. It is a must-see for anybody that wants a good chuckle and witness the creativity and talent of Key West’s stars.
