This past Saturday the city of Marathon Parks and Recreation Department hosted a Fishing Fun clinic that drew more than 80 children to Oceanfront Park.

“The kids learned the basics of casting, tackle, knot tying and fishing,” said Parks and Rec Specialist Ali Adams. “We even had a touch tank of marine life and a live turtle from the Turtle Hospital.”

She said the clinic was a group effort between the city, the Organized Fishermen of Florida (Marathon Chapter) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Fish Florida Foundation.

“Many volunteers from the community helped as well,” Adams said. “We must especially thank avid fishermen Danny Aldredge and Jim Martin for their time and incredible patience.”

The Parks and Recreation Department plans to have another fishing event in Spring 2015.
