On Tuesday, the Marathon High School’s softball team ended its quest to advance to the regional finals. They suffered a crushing loss to John Carroll Catholic High School, the same team that kept them out of the regional finals in 2016. Regardless, the MHS softball team ended with an impressive 20-5 record, including the recent win over Knights of Highlands Christian Academy with a 10-0 shutout win orchestrated by eighth-grade pitcher Cecily Ozbun and top hitters Leta Ricart and Grace Kirwan. “District champs and runner-up for regionals is something to remember and I have no doubt we will be back in this same game next year,” said coach Kevin Freeman. “We wish the seniors — Rachel, Hannah and Amanda well.” FELIX HILARY/Contributed
