Street Closures for Poker Run

As the islands prepare for the annual Phil Peterson Harley Davidson Poker Run that brings an estimated 10,000 motorcycles to the city, the Key West Police Department is gearing up to ensure that this year’s Poker Run is a safe, fun event for the riders and the community. Officers will be out in full force to be sure the visitors abide by the city’s noise and traffic laws.

If you’re planning a trip downtown during the event, be aware that there will be several road closures to accommodate individual events as well as to provide parking for the hundreds of bikes displayed during the enormously popular event.

Beginning Friday, September 16 the 400 and 500 blocks of Greene and Caroline streets will be closed in order to accommodate motorcycle parking. Both streets will be closed when the riders begin to arrive, probably midday Friday, and will remain closed through Sunday. In addition, lower Duval and other nearby streets will likely be closed as it becomes necessary.

With so many motorcycles on the road, it’s a good idea to be particularly vigilant when driving. Check your mirrors twice before changing lanes, and give yourself extra time to get somewhere to allow for potentially heavy road traffic.
