March 1 is just around the corner and the March winds are not the only thing that will be blowing, so will the horns and wind instruments of Joe Dallas and the Paradise Big Band! Sweeter sounds have never been heard in the Keys or anywhere in the world.
Joe and his band of minstrel ‘merry men and women’ are some of the finest musicians I have ever had the pleasure to listen and dance to. If you have never had the pleasure of experiencing the music of this fabulous Big Band, or if you’re a fan like me, you can see them live and in person March 1 at the Switlik Elementary School in Marathon in the beautiful “Switlik Ballroom.”
The Rotary Club of Marathon hosts this annual event and it is considered a local highlight each season. This year, the evening will be expanded to include a Dance Showcase from Theo and Ganine’s Dance Center. Having just returned from the World Pro-Am Championships the studio is excited to share some numbers that helped vault them into the finals. Starting at 6 pm, dancers from all levels will perform favorite dances choreographed to selected songs. If you’re into fashion, you will love the beautiful costumes and gowns valued for as much as four thousand dollars will be in the show. This is a great opportunity to ‘see for yourself’ why dancing is at an all time high in popularity and participation.
At 7:30 pm Joe Dallas and the Paradise Big Band kick off for your dancing and listening pleasure. The band will perform favorite tunes from the past as well as current hits. Throughout the night the Marathon Rotary Club will conduct a silent auction featuring donations from the community and local businesses. There are always great finds and wonderful bargains. A dessert bar and refreshment table covered with all types of delectable delights will be available for a small donation. Proceeds of the event go to the Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Foundation provides relief from catastrophic events, both at home and abroad. Rotary is a major partner in the fight against disease, poverty, ignorance and illiteracy and a partner in the development of mankind. Rotary International began a global program, Polio Plus, to eradicate the world’s greatest crippling disease and in 1985, made the historic decision to immunize all the world’s children against polio. Twenty years later, we are on the brink of a polio-free world. For more information about the Rotary organization, please go the website and read for yourself at http://www.rotary.org
