Sweatin’ to the Oldies

The Florida Keys Area Health Education Center (Keys AHEC) is happy to announce new Enhance Fitness classes and Living Healthy workshops geared to adults age 55 and older who are looking to lead healthier lifestyles.

Enhance Fitness classes incorporate strength training, flexibility, balance, low-impact aerobics and cardiovascular conditioning in a lively and interactive atmosphere specially tailored for older adults. Classes are one hour long and run for 16 weeks at a time.

Enhance Fitness classes are available throughout the Keys with times and locations as follows. Classes are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Big Pine Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m., Founders Park, Islamorada at 10 a.m. and at Key Colony Beach City Hall at 9 a.m. Classes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Keys Senior Plaza, Key West at 10 a.m., Pirate Wellness Center, Cudjoe Key at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and at the Jaycees Building, Marathon at 10 a.m. Class fees range from no cost to $25 per month, please contact for specifics on a particular class.

Living Healthy workshops are geared to older adults with an ongoing health condition, such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, chronic pain, anxiety or if you are taking care of someone with such a condition. This workshop teaches you how to live your best life, learn better nutrition and exercise choices and learn how to talk with doctors and family about your health.

Living Healthy workshops are available throughout the Keys with times and locations as follows. A new workshop starts in Tavernier at Burton Memorial United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 2nd from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Another new workshop starts in Marathon at Fishermen’s Hospital on Monday, July 1st from 1:30 – 4 p.m.. Both workshops are free to participants.
