The Marker Resort opens – Key West’s newest hotel fills niche - A view of a sunset - The Marker Key West

The sunset from the Captain’s Quarters overlooking the pool and Cero Bodega. The other side of the balcony boasts views of the harbor and Schooner Western Union — talk about a front row seat to watch the wench drop on New Year’s Eve.

Overlooking Key West’s Historic Seaport, Schooner Wharf and the soon-to-be opened Waterfront Brewery, The Marker Resort in Key West is close to the hustle and bustle, but far enough away to feel like an oasis.

On Wednesday, the newly opened hotel invited local media to meet with travel writers and bloggers staying in Key West for a small reception in the resort’s nicest suite — the Captain’s Quarters.

The more than 400 square-feet room boasts a balcony worth writing home about. Ten guests and two hotel executives chatted the evening away about treasure hunters, ghost stories and more on the spacious lanai with the perfect view of the watercolor-like sunset overlooking two of the three pools on the property. Light bites were provided by the on-site restaurant Cero Bodega — the ceviche was fresh and the bite-sized crab cakes hit the spot.

The family friendly hotel offers a banquet room with private pool, which would be the perfect backdrop for a small 100-person or less Key West wedding – wink, wink. The Captain’s Quarters would also make a primo honeymoon suite, or space for a bride to get ready with moms and several bridesmaids.

Staff includes a “Conch-ierge” to help plan vacation excursions, but the best part is the resort’s proximity to Key West’s hottest spots. Rooms run $350.
