Truth be told, this week’s mercury drop and strong winds actually make for ideal sail fishing weather.

The return of east to northeast winds and slightly cooler temperatures will surly get these incredible game fish fired up – they absolutely love this weather. They are an absolute blast to catch, and anglers of all ages can catch them with a little coaching.

Dolphin, tuna and wahoo are also on the move right now in our offshore waters and are a welcome byproduct of live bait sail fishing.

Bob from South Carolina enjoyed a recent trip aboard the Best Bet IV and landed this nice mangrove snapper.

The reef is also quite active right now with great catches of mangrove snapper, yellowtail snapper and mutton snapper.

Though there are also lots of grouper on the deep and shallow reefs, unfortunately grouper season is closed as of January 1 and will remain closed until May 1. So, be sure if you land any species of any size to release all your grouper unharmed.

Kingfish, cero and Spanish mackerel can be found everywhere from the Florida Bay, to the reef and offshore. Use a small trace of wire if you would like to catch these toothy speedsters.

Hawks Channel is an often times overlooked fishing venue as everyone heads out to the reef; the channel has many shallow rocky patches which hold a variety of Keys game and food fish from, but not limited to snapper, kingfish and cobia. This is a great venue when the wind is a little strong for your liking as most spots are only a few miles from shore.

Best Bet for the week ahead: Go sail fishing!
