There is a new sheriff in town

More than a quarter of a century ago, a Michigan truck driver turned cop decided to escape the harsh winters of Upper Peninsula to become a beach boy at John Pennekamp State Park.

On Tuesday, January 6, the 27tth Sheriff of Monroe County received his badge and lanyards from his wife, Cindy and daughters .

Robert Peryam, was sworn in as the 27th Sheriff of Monroe County. With a line of supporters and well-wishers snaking around the parking lot of the newly completed Freeman Justice Center, the 3rd floor courtroom was standing-room only for the few supporters who arrived for the historic event.

A former captain and Chief of Police for the City of Marathon, Peryam replacing retiring Sheriff Rick Roth – the third longest serving sheriff in the entire state of Florida.
