Once again, TIB Bank is one of the major sponsors of the annual Mariners Hospital Gordon Present 5K Walk/Run. This year’s race is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, when walkers and runners from the Keys and Miami-Dade County will race down the old highway from Coral Shores High School to Treasure Village Montessori School.
Race proceeds, including TIB Bank’s donation of $1,000.00, will benefit the Mariners Hospital Center for Excellence in Nursing (CEN). CEN, a fund administered by the nurses, provides money for the education and development of the nursing staff, to send Mariners employees through nursing school and to improve patient care with nurse-approved equipment and programs. CEN donations also finance the purchase of advanced technology, including computerized nursing records, medical equipment, and wireless communication devices.
The Mariners event is named after Gordon Present who was a well-known community activist and generous benefactor to Mariners Hospital and strong supporter of the nursing program. He served on the Hospital Board from 2001 until his passing July 3, 2006.
