Two Marathon Youth Participate in Key West All Stars

Never in the history of Marathon Youth Football has the Key West Youth Football Club chosen four players for the All Star team. Players Randy Culmer, offensive and defensive lineman and kicker, John Qualls, runner, Stevie Sainz and Evan Bridger were nominated for the squad, but due to prior engagements, only two of the four athletes were able to participate.

Randy and John committed to two and half weeks of nightly three-hour practices in Key West.

The team hosted the Homestead Hurricanes in Key West on Dec. 5 and swiftly took a 12-0 victory. They advanced to FIU for a match up against West Palm Beach Dec. 13, and though the team battled for a win, they fell 37-13.

“The boys played a great game,” said Coach Larry Smorgala. “It was such a great experience for them.”

The Marathon Youth Football Club also wished to extend a special thanks to coaches and parents in the Key West program.
