Meet the Candidates in Key Largo
You are invited to the Key Largo Civic Club’s Political Forum, on Sunday, October 24th at 6pm.  The Civic Club is located at 209 Ocean Bay Dr. in Key Largo (MM100 Oceanside off US#1 – across the street from the Lions Club).

Candidates will have one minute to address the audience then they will be asked a prepared question.  They will have one minute to answer. There may be questions from the audience at the end. We ask that our Florida Keys candidates speak themselves with no substitutes.

The Key Largo Civic Club membership has a wide variety of interests & members tend to be in the 50 plus age group as well as active members of the community. The Upper Keys AARP Club is also joining in co-sponsoring the forum.  This event is usually very well attended… many times with standing room only of between 100 to 150 people. Candidates may bring campaign materials to hand out. At the end of the forum, audience members may ask questions of the candidates. Candidates will have 1 minute to answer. All candidates are invited.

Sample ballots will be on hand as well as information on the Constitutional Amendments. There will be light refreshments.

Green Futures Expo Offers Workshops, Food and Healthy Alternatives
Key Largo’s Green Futures Expo, to be held 4-7 pm Monday, Nov. 1, is a great way to start the week at the Murray Nelson Govt. & Cultural Center, MM 102. Kicking off a weeklong series of EcoWeek events, the Green Futures Expo will feature free workshops, exhibits, and healthy food by the Key Largo Conch House Restaurant in a beautiful venue that will culminate with a sunset celebration. Admission is free.

Fifty exhibitors will demonstrate how to save energy and money, how to improve the beauty of your garden using eco-friendly practices, what to recycle and how to green your business and save money too. 

KLI Hardware will have a selection of home building items made of recycled materials, demonstrations of water and electric saving products that work inside and outside your home and more. Find real solutions for real people right here in the Keys. Giveaways include recycling bins from Keys Sanitary Service and native plants. Learn about alternative energy being used in the Keys and check out electric and hybrid cars. Sheriff Synthetics will teach 10 tips for better gas mileage and offer a free drawing for $50 of Amsoil products.

Interactive learning for kids includes a remote-control solar car and the chance to see a live Screech Owl. Learn how to sail, kayak and bike the Keys and discover more about our wonderful natural parks. All this plus auctions, raffles and surprises will make this a Monday evening to remember!

Key Largo Senior Group
Monday, October 25th at 10:30am the Senior Group will host Letisha Davis, Competitive Bidding Ombudsman for Miami-Miami Beach-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano CBA to talk about durable medical equipment and new procedures for traveling with durable medical equipment.  Michael Salem of S.T.E.P.S. in the Right Direction, Inc will address his agencies programs for Seniors.  And Pam Martin will round out the program & cover a variety of timely “Senior Issue” subjects.

The Senior Group meets at the Key Largo Library meeting room in the Tradewinds Plaza Shopping Center at MM101.4, Oceanside from 10:30 to around noon every Monday except holidays.
