The Florida Keys Council of the Arts is pleased to announce the new officers elected to the Board of Directors for the 2010-2011 fiscal years. Chair Dean Walters of Sugarloaf, Vice Chair Pat Unferth Bowman of Key West, Secretary Sherry Phillips of Big Pine Key and Treasurer Gayle Hewlett of Marathon will serve with Board members; Lucy Carleton (Key West) , Judy Harris (Ocean Reef), Karen Leonard (Key West), Nancy Perez Miller (Key Largo) and Emily Sorkin (Key West).
The Arts Council is also delighted to welcome many new Advisory Board members and gratefully acknowledges their efforts on behalf of the arts and cultural community in Monroe County – in the Upper Keys new members Debra Ginsberg, Robert Sax, and Michael Mayer join Past Chair, Cris Sandifer, Tom Butler, and Claire Lang-Richmond. Middle Keys’ Advisory Board members welcome Darlene LaVelle from Marathon and Susanne Woods from Sugarloaf and in Key West, new members are Carol Abramovitz and Keith Bland.
The mission of the Florida Keys Council of the Arts is to advance the creative development and promotion of the arts in our cultural community by providing excellence in leadership, advocacy, education, and financial support for artists, cultural organizations, and citizens of Monroe County.
The Arts Council makes grants, supports Art in Public Places, and promotes the destination for its rich and diverse history in art and culture. The Arts Council provides services to visual and performing artists, arts organizations, students and the public, striving to instill a passion for and participation in the arts.
The Florida Keys Council of the Arts has been designated by the Board of County Commissioners as the Local Arts Agency (LAA) as provided by Florida Statute 286.011.
