County Commish Candidates Sponsor BPBP Fundraiser
The Big Pine Bark Park (a.k.a. the Big Pine Dog Park) is hosting an event to celebrate election season and raise money to build a dog park on Big Pine Key.
The fundraiser is set for Sunday, Aug. 29, just a few days after the primary election confirms who will be on the November ballot for county commission.
The festivities will be held at Parrotdise Waterfront Bar & Grille on Little Torch Key, featuring food, fun, drinks and music from 3 to 7 p.m.
The event is sponsored by county commission candidates George Neugent, Mario Di Gennaro, Danny Coll and David Rice. The group is seeking additional sponsorship.
BPBP was formed by three friends with dogs who simply got tired of driving to Key West or Marathon to let their pooches get some exercise. The first choice of land was met with much resistance, but luckily, the Big Pine Athletic Association offered a piece of their property on the Watson Field compound off of Key Deer Boulevard and South Street. The Athletic Association, being a nonprofit organization, absorbed the BPBP and the group began to raise money and received approval from the county to build a dog park.
