More than 500 walkers joined forces to raise $43,815.05 at last weekend’s Strides Against Cancer walk in Marathon. The event draws men and women from all walks of life (pun intended) to dress up and involve their children and four-legged friends. Marathon High School junior Hannah Gracy sang the national anthem, and Marathon High School’s new Color Guard presented the flags. The American Legion team topped the fund-raiser by bringing in $6,700 (the majority raised at a golf tournament on the following day). The top individual fundraiser was Shari Cronin. The funds benefit the American Cancer Society. Next year’s event will be chaired by Charlotte Quinn.

Key West’s Making Strides Walk takes place Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. from White Street Pier.
