The Islamorada Fishing Club proudly announces the results of its 11th annual Captain’s Cup Dolphin Tournament. The event was held June 2, 2010 with the kick off and rules, and June 3rd as the day of fishing and the awards banquet.

This year’s tournament was a $25,000.00 winner-take-all contest. The top three dolphins weighed determined the winner. The field consisted of 17 boats, 34 anglers and 30 fished weighed in. The winds were out of the south at 5 miles per hour.

The Grand Champions sponsored by Ivory International, receiving original hand painted trophies by Pasta Pantaleo, and an entry to IGFA Offshore World Championship were anglers Bobby Orr and Bobby Orr, Jr. of Deerfield Beach with the total weight of 54.8 pounds on the Reel McCoy.

The Champion Captain sponsored by Mercedes Benz of Cutler Bay and Caribee Boat Sales was Captain George McElveen. Captain McElveen also received the original hand painted Captain’s Cup Trophy filled with gift certificates from local businesses. Champion Mate sponsored by Yamaha Outboards was Mate Kiki Ferrer of the Reel McCoy.

Second Place sponsored by TIB Bank and ESPN Saltwater Series were anglers Jerry Richmond of Islamorada and Randy Richmond of Key Largo on the boat Rarin’ to Go, with Captain Dirk Reich and Mate Robert Morrison. They brought in the largest fish, but could not top the combined weight.  Their catch tipped the scales at 47.6 pounds.

Third Place, sponsored by Regan Insurance was Anglers Alan Adrosky and Peter Valliere of Tavernier. Captain and Mate were John Lewis and Sue Reihlman on the boat Yank ‘Em with 39.2 pounds combined weight.

“The fish weren’t huge, but the competition was tough this year. Not all of the boats weighed in, but those who did produced a total of 331.2 pounds of fish,” said Tournament Director Dianne Harbaugh. The Islamorada Fishing Club put on the fabulous show for which they have become known. Chef Matt’s creations for both the kick off banquet and awards party received rave reviews from the hungry anglers. The Islamorada Fishing Club is looking forward to great sailfish events in December and January.
