Season preview ranges from national music acts to local theater

In its inaugural season, Key West Theater, a non-profit located at 512 Eaton St., is bringing national touring acts and concerts, like country singer Deana Carter, ballad rocker Edwin McCain, and Robert Randolph and the Family Band, to the small island town. The 255-seat venue is almost sold out for the Jan. 19 and 20 Indigo Girls concert. Local musicians have the spotlight, too, opening for the nationally known singers on select nights.

“I’m very excited for our inaugural line-up,” Executive Artistic Director Michael Marrero said. “It’s a wonderful mix of local and national talent, and we are happy to be able to include our local talent in the lineup.”

In addition to the concert series, talent from near and far will be taking the stage starting in December with the Bone Island Variety Show opening the season. “We think ‘Silence! The Musical’ will be a big hit,” said Marketing Director Kelly Norman.

Another very interesting and unique show this season is “Skyscraper.” “We are flying over Cuban actors for an exclusive Key West to Cuba play exchange,” she said. “This will be the first Cuban play to be performed by Cuban actors in America in more than 50 years.”

The building, a historic Key West gem, was originally built in 1848 as the First Baptist Church of Key West. More information on Key West Theater can be found at thekeywesttheater.com.

The Key West Theater offers VIP balcony seating, cocktail service for select events, and private event rentals. Individuals and businesses can sponsor a table which gives them first rights to purchase tickets for Key West Theater produced events.
