The sun is shining, the weather is sweet, and the atmosphere couldn’t be any more perfect than at the SHOR American Seafood Grill.  Located within the Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa, this elegant restaurant located on the Gulf of Mexico is a hidden gem in Old Town. Shor brings a laid-back, sophisticated flair to island dining with its friendly staff and innovative chef, you’ll feel pampered and at home all at the same time!

The waves will be crashing at your toes, sailboats floating by, and the birds singing as you sip on your homemade Bloody Mary and take a moment to relax and unwind. This is what vacation is meant to be; whether, you’re coming from down the block or 2000 miles away, Shor’s chic and light touch make you slow down for a moment and enjoy your day.

Elizabeth Love, a local and Florida Keys Community College recruiter, was excited to kick back and vacation for three hours just a few blocks away from her permanent home.

“This place is lovely. I love dining by the water and food is been incredible,” she raves.

Executive Chef Greg Lopez brings a wealth of knowledge to the menu. He was trained at the New England Culinary institute and has spent many years in the California wine country honing his craft.  Chef Lopez says, “Food doesn’t need a lot of intervention to be really good. Simplicity is better, I like to let the food speak for itself.”

And speak for itself it does, in volumes.

The Key West Weekly party descended on Shor for brunch and was immediately impressed with the Frittata. Made with zucchini, roasted tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil it melted in your mouth and puts a smile on your face.

Another standout, is Shor’s signature Seafood Salad. This dish is a wonderful medley of scallops, mussels, shrimp, clams and the house’s fresh fish in the house, (on this day it was Snapper) with bib lettuce, mango, and hearts of palm. This is a perfect representation of local seafood.

If you’re in the mood for something a little more classic Chef Desi is the Grill Master hovering over the grill overlooking the ocean. He has to have the best grilling job on the island. He is happy to fire you up any fare from hamburgers to chicken, fish and even veggie burgers. Talking with him as he prepared my chicken sandwich we watched the sailboats go by and waves crash, I felt as thought I was with one of my friends, hanging out, having a Bar-B-Q. You will, too. Only, this every, Sunday occurrence is dubbed by the Hyatt as a Brunch-a-Q!

Danielle Vaughn of Shor isn’t timid about touting the location, “this is a fantastic place to watch the sunset and have a drink. Laid back and right on the water you can just watch the boats go by and enjoy yourself. We are here to make you feel at home.”

To make you feel even more at home is the incredible Bloody Mary bar station available at the Brunch-a-Q’s.

Chef Lopez explains the beauty of the bar,  “all of the ingredients for our Bloody Mary’s are prepared in house. We pickle our own vegetables, onions, green beans, and asparagus. The shrimp is also cocktailed here. There aren’t any processed foods put in at all.”

Mixed in with a shot or two of Absolut Peppar your morning will be off to a firey, start.

Love, herself, became enamored with the spread, laid out right around the corner from her Old Town casa.

“The waves crash up right next to you. I loved the grill station… everything was made to order and Desi is awesome.”

Shor is open 7 days a week 365 days a year for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Brunch-a-Q’s are every Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 3 pm. Call 305•809•4000 to make your reservations. With Easter weekend upon us and summer around the corner, there isn’t a better time to savor the menu items at Shor.

Even thought his spread boasts of a Bloody Mary Bar, Mimosas are on the menu! Paired with Shor’s Frittata, the combination is always a favorite no matter where you were the Saturday night before!

Stealing from the natural surroundings, the Seafood Salad is one of Shor’s signature dishes.
