Leadership Monroe County was recently honored by the County Commission - many of whom are members of the prestigious organization.

Organization celebrates 20th Anniversary

At this past Wednesday’s County Commission meeting, Mayor Heather Carruthers (Class XI), and her fellow commissioners congratulated Leadership Monroe County on its twentieth anniversary and commended the organization “for their outstanding efforts to improve our community through education and information exchange.”

Among those receiving the proclamation were Mayor Pro Tem David Rice (Class IX), Greg Sullivan (V), Roman Gestasi (XVIII), Debbie Fredrick and Bob Eadie (XIX), and Deb Gillis (X) along with current LMC directors Mike Puto (II), Kim Works (V), Ray Rash (XIII), Keith Harris (XIX), Lynn Goodwin (XI), and LMC President Manny Madruga (XVI).

“A few board members from LMC went to the county commission meeting to receive a proclamation speaking to the success and achievements of the program,” Madruga said. “As it turns out, what spoke even louder about the success of the program was the fact that there were already twice as many alumni there, unrelated to the proclamation, to conduct the business of leading our community.”

Leadership Monroe County seeks to build relationships for constructive alliances among Florida Keys leaders. The program is aimed for residents actively involved in leadership roles in the private sector, government, or nonprofit organizations. Through a series of one and multi-day sessions, participants examine fundamental segments of the local community and gather information to help them contribute to and make quality leadership decisions.
