Two weeks ago, Christina’s Boutique made the move from one side of Marathon to the other. The new, bigger location is double the size of the old location, with room enough to add men, children, and home décor inventory to her previous women-only offerings.
“I like this side of town,” owner Christina Alo said. “It’s really up and coming with a good strip of stores and restaurants.”
Columbia, Express, Jam’s World, Chico’s, Michael Kors and Coach are just some of the brands the store is offering.
“My spirits are so good here,” Alo said, while ringing up repeat customers who followed her to the new location.
Several people stopped by to see how the store was coming along, including Debbie Krutchkoff, who spends her winters in Marathon and frequented Alo’s old location. “Wow, it’s really filling out nice in here,” she said, looking through the color-coordinated racks filled with like-new items from baby to plus-size.
Alo is looking for more men’s and children’s clothing to buy or consign. The process is simple. Bring in lightly used, clean, ready-to-sell items, and Christina makes two piles. A saleable pile, and a donation pile (the seller can keep the donation pile or Alo will donate the pile, if desired.) It’s a 60/40 (shop/seller) split for consigned items, or Alo will offer the seller cash on the spot for the items she thinks she can move quickly.
Alo, a mother to an 8-year-old, graduated from Marathon High School in 2004, and opened her original location 10 years ago.
Christina’s Consignments is located at 2225 Overseas Hwy. The telephone number is 305-289-3222. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Christina’s Consignments is open, but the grand opening celebration will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 14-15. Alo will be raffling off store gift certificates and will have wine and appetizers for those stopping in to see the new shop.
The ever-changing items are a mix of secondhand and consigned items, some still with original store tags on them. Items range from bathing suits and fishing shirts to jewelry, designer purses and wedding dresses.
The biggest item she has in the store is a dining room table, which is for sale for $250. “I’m looking for more furniture, too. Solid wood, higher end Tommy Bahama-type things,” Alo said.
