RUMOR CONTROL

Social distancing applies on boats too. No more than 10 people per boat. WEEKLY FILE PHOTO

A fake email is circulating that states that Florida Fish & Wildlife is fining people $500 if they go out on their boats. Per FWC and Capt. David Dipre, that’s not true. “The widely distributed post showing FWC officers on a patrol boat is fake news. Any additional questions or concerns please contact me at david.dipre@myfwc.com or at 305-684-8711,” he said. Remember to practice safe social distancing, and boats parked boats are at least 50 feet apart. The FWC and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Resources team are enforcing.

The Coast Guard is not “turning boats around” and “sending them back to Miami.” The Coast Guard is helping the FWC spread Gov. Ron DeSantis’ order about behavior on the ocean. No more than 10 people can be on a boat at any given time. Also, rafting up — where boats tie up or anchor next to one another — is prohibited. In fact, boats must stay 50 feet apart.
