What to do this week

Get a never-before look inside the Chicago Bulls during the 1990s, one of the most notable NBA dynasties led by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and coach Phil Jackson.  “The Last Dance,” an ESPN documentary that came out last month, features film from a crew that had an all-access pass to the Bulls during the 1997-98 NBA season. Over 500 hours of all-access footage was filmed and used to create the 10-part documentary series. Jordan allowed the filming with the agreement that the footage would only be used with his direct permission. After many years, and many refusals from Jordan, he agreed in 2016 to a documentary proposal from Mike Tollin.

“Afterlife” follows immigrant writer Antonia Vega as she navigates the chaos of a life turned upside down. Her husband suddenly dies, her sister disappears and a pregnant, undocumented teenager shows up on her doorstep. Julia Alvarez, author of “In The Time Of The Butterflies” and “How the García Girls Lost Their Accents,” is back for the first time in almost 15 years with this sharp novel about having faith in a broken world. Read more about it on Goodreads, and grab a copy on Amazon.

These candles made by Old Whaling Company are hand poured with a special blend of soy and olive wax. They have a lead-free cotton wick and are poured in an American-made glass container. The olive wax is harder and has a higher melting point than traditional soy wax, allowing the candle to burn longer. Coastal Calm is a relaxing fragrance blend of fresh ocean with a hint of soft floral. Buy it on Amazon for $18.99 plus shipping.
